When installing new rubber fuel lines I emailed Goodyear (Veyance now) for lubricant to use on tight fittings and they emailed me back to use isopropyl alcohol. It does make the rubber hose very slippery. I thought about silicone too but didn't want the hose to STAY slippery forever, the alcohol evaporates very fast.
