From what I read those years had the original 917 brake design that Porsche had intended. Also they have the kick the rear turbo boost. That is most of the fun of these cars. The later cars had higher compression and lower boost levels so while they were more refined they are less dramatic to drive and less like the 934 racing cars. But in the end none of this matters in the market place I think. A 930 is a 930.
