The D chunk failure is, from what I have read, usually found at pretty low mileage and not something that randomly comes up at 70-80k. I know LN recommends treating the IMS bearing as a wear item and that makes a lot of sense to me. Ball bearings are wear items in a lot of applications elsewhere. Perhaps once the " IMS Solution" gets more widely supported it will be a permanent fix for the issue.

I just recently started shopping the 996 in addition to the earlier cars because of the value they represent in the 20kish price range. Faster than the 993, good AC, and I actually like the exterior styling. I do dislike the interior but with the right touches and options it can look good (full leather, body colored console, etc).
