So far the tinware that goes around the alt. is different. The 912E seems to use a 911 type alt. which has a bigger fan attached to it (the little 5" fan on the alt, not the cooling fan). The peice seems like a bent up and cut VW peice but I don't think it would be easy to re-create unless you have the 912E peice to work from. The rubber tube that connects the fan housing to the alt is also too small for the 912E alt.

BTW do you have a 912E alt part number? My car is far from original, maybe it isn't even a 912E alt that I have?
