I had a mustang once that used to melt the cables routinely until the inner cable would pop out of the casing, usually during rush hour traffic. I finally wrapped the headers at that point with a header wrap. If the outer casing is plastic only, I would wrap everything icluding the cable itself, other wise your foot is going all of the way to the floor at the wrong moment.
