Only thing at the bottom of the tank is the fuel pump, so maybe some relic of an old alarm system?
Fuel sender signal comes out at the top of the tank and crosses the front top of the spare tire well. Check the multipin connector in the spare tire well, otherwise likely contacts in the pod.
There are only about half a dozen types of shocks that fit on a 928, and all but a couple were used one time or another at the factory (two kinds of Boge, two kinds of Bilstein), but chances are they are not original.
Before you buy wheels, decide on the tires on want to use, then get wheels to fit.
