When it comes time you really have to take it off. Best to wait while you have the engine out. It's pretty easy to get at then.
I put mine back on with 10 internal spring washers. Reamed then out a bit so they'd fit. I found some close to the correct size at NAPA. Just slid them over the posts and sucked them tight.

I just couldn't handle ( an anal deal ) the double stick tape.
Mine is one of the NLA black ones. I didn't want it coming off.
