Here in Gainesville, us poor locals go couch shopping the week after graduation. Drive around in a pickup, find a nice couch, take it, keep driving, find another swap 'em and go on. Know someone who scored a complete leather sectional this way...
I've seen people pull still in xmas wrap boxes with cashmere sweaters, gold chains, all sorts of stuff out of a dumpster when students move out.
