Clarke, The H1 design allows separate adjustment for the high and low beams. This is an advantage as you can raise up the passenger side low beam a little and still not distract oncoming traffic. You can also separately adjust the high beams to really reach out. Also, it is easy to run separate wattage bulbs in the high/low beams. But the H1s are NLA new and expensive used. The H4 are fine and can be purchased new. Most look at the H1 to being brighter and superior. There are a few things to look at when buying. $1200 seems like a good price. I got mine a few years ago in the same condition with out any damage for $800 plus spare Bosch quartz lenses, 8 bulbs, and a spare broken light for parts. Getting the parts for these lights are a *****. If you get them take care not to damage them or youll have some expensive paperweights. Also look at the adjusters to make sure the screws are not all rounded or buggered up. These are usually worn and the parts that break. If these are going into that little hot rod long hood you bought you might have to update the relay so not to toast the wiring stalk on the for the hi/lo beam.
