I've owned mid year, SC, and currently drive a 96 993 and a couple of LWB cars. I'd find a way to own both the 993 and the LWB. The 993 is faster, and better handling than any of my other 911's. It's not a pig, in spight of some earlier comments on this thread.

Yes, it's much more well-mannered, and I could stiffen the suspension if I wanted. You can't feel every pebble that makes contact with your tires like the earlier cars, but it is faster in the corners and faster in a straight line. My wife prefers riding in the 993 since it's more comfortable for her, so that has its advantages.

I put a 3.2 in my SC with 7:31 gears and the 993 easily out accelerates that car. My MFI cars have better throttle response than the 993, but they are both way fun when you get on the cam. If you play above 4.5k RPM you will enjoy both a lot.

My 993 is subjected to more weather, since that car is driven to to work more. The LWB cars only come out to play when there is a low probability of rain. I suppose the 71S is faster, but it doesn't feel that way, maybe because the vario-ram yields a wider RPM band of higher torque.

Refined versus Raw. Both are really fun. Own both, then you can match your mood all the time.
