A well done repaint would be better than bad original paint IMHO. People who like and care for their 36 year old cars will want it to look as nice as possible and that means a repaint most of the time. Bad original paint means they don't care what it looks like...and probably don't want to spend money keeping it running with correct parts....again IMHO.
As far as value......people loose $10K on brand new cars every day...why would $2K one way or another on a 36 year old Porsche really bother anyone if its a car you want?
