You should have immediately called either the police or your attorney.
Follow the rules, don't break the law, and you won't get in trouble. remomber,you are the one who will have to pay the fine or do the time, not the people who are telling you that "you did the right thing"
And for goodness sake don't post it all over the interwebs when you've just committed a misdemeanor and possibly a felony!
