I don't know if the system is the same on late S or SC models, but if it is, this can be due to incorrect adjustment of the control wire, the arms, or the flaps inside, or possibly the foam gaskets on the flaps inside the vent tubes breaking up.
Make sure everything is aligned properly at points marked A. Make sure the flaps inside these points are in good shape.
