Spoke to him today - very nice guy and extremely open about his inventory. Willing to criticize, pick apart etc. The tangerine car I linked to does not have a numbers matching motor - it is from a 67 and was rebuilt in 2012 with all the normal upgrades. The interior is preserved the exterior was repainted. Impossible to get a feel for how nice the paint is. Jeff didn't wax poetic, but he didn't apologize for it. The word "nice" came up a lot. It is in the eye of the beholder. Same applies to the brightwork.
Non numbers matching could not matter less to me, and I am presuming that in the lower echelons (ie very nice driver level) it wouldn't matter to most buyers.
One thing that gives me pause is looking at a car like this:
Los Angeles Porsche Speedster Dealers Los Angeles Used Porsche Dealer
Targa, boring color, not particularly remarkable... offered at what I would call rather weighted dealer pricing. Maybe its more worthwhile buying a harder to find car like a 912 from a knowledgeable dealer than it is for a "commodity car" (sorry) such as an SC which can be found in similar condition all over CL, ebay etc?
Anyone in the immediate are willing to do a walk-by to help me get a better feel for the car?
