troubleshooting?? cold (only) start problem on '89 325i
hi,
i'm looking for a little insight before i order the wrong part .....
i've got a '89 bmw 325i, 139K, great maintenance ...
everything runs beautifully ..... except on cold start
if the engine is "good and cold", a typical ignition start (i.e., 1-2 second turn over) results in the engine dying out, requiring a subsequent lengthy ignition start, acting like its 'flooded', with an eventual 'catch' after an occassional rich 'cloud' from the exhaust ....
if, however, that FIRST start is held longer, i.e. a couple of turn-overs for 3-5 seconds, the engine ususally catches and then everything is fine .....
when warm, no problems starting .....
perusing the 'boards', i've gathered that the problem might relate to any/all of:
O2 sensor
cam position sensor
valve adjustment
...
anyone have any suggestions as to how to narrow down my options and actually identify the problem?
could it be something else?
possibly relevant upgrades include:
Dinan chip
Malpassi Adjustable Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator
K&F Cold Air Intake Filter Cone
Canton/Mecca cartridge oil filter
Bosch Platinum+4 plugs
RedLine fluids
Optima Yellow-top Deep Discharge Battery
K&F cartridge fuel-filter
BavAuto High-Perf Ignition Wire Set
thanks!
