It seems that the bad performance is from no fire in piston #1. I am going to check the wire and also see if there is a spark. After sanding the plug of course.

Both the early 924 manuals I have clearly show points and a condenser in the dist. The 924 does have the additional "capacitance discharge" supplement to the coil. This is to get a hot clean spark out of the regular coil.
