There were a couple of versions.. if you're using the old HPV1 system for ignition and fuel mgmt.. then yes an upgrade is probably due.
However, if your system is just controlling spark, they worked pretty darn good.. very simple set-up... unless the lack of map sensor is an issue.

sorry to confuse. the '78 3.3 engine was totally rebuilt and modified in 1990. and yes, has the twin plug HPV1 with CIS.
I plan to retain the CIS but definitely want to upgrade to a modern ign system that can control spark advance/retard based on boost to protect what will be a rebuild on this engine. I have not researched enough to determine if there are any systems that can inject a knock detector into the mix.
all ready to drop the engine/tranny this coming week.
