I question alot of medical practices these days, of whether it is truly necesary. I have been through alot of treatments for my 3 bouts of Hodgkins disease (cancer), and 3 bouts of related heart failure (stemmed from one of the chemotherapy drugs). Several years, I used half of my vacation days going to yet one more specialist doctor's appointments that I felt were just covering thier own asses, and only deemed doable because of my good health insurance. I have been poked, prodded, and tested to my limits, and at least on the Cancer end of things, I never felt sick, or had any lumps/bumps other than what showed up on an xray.
It sounds to me like they are trying the latest remedys on your Dad because his insurance will cover it, and your Dad is willing. It may be doing some good, but at what cost financially, and to future health.
