No, you got that backwards. This has a more complex sound and is a little higher in pitch than the ones with the outlets on the ends. Probably louder, too... but that's relative to how loud the others are,as these don't vary as much as the others do.
This style muffler also has a more aggressive sound when off throttle, too. Watch some videos of early 70's competition 911s to get an idea of what an angry 911 motor sounds like.
