clutch recommendation
Stock 89, G50, turbo look Carrera. Plan on replacing the clutch with turbo installation. If no surprises, plan on adding a thicker cylinder shim gasket, new ARP Rod bolts, Rings and .5 bar turbo with IC. With this modest increase in power, is the stock clutch replacement adequate?
Thanks, 89 Carrera |

If you plan to turbocharge it, definitely upgrade your clutch. My stock 964 clutch only held 3-4psi before slipping so like 0.25 bar
Get a sachs sport clutch with the turbo pressure plate. I went lightweight flywheel with mine and replaced the dual mass but I think yours is already a single mass.

I’ve been very happy with my Kennedy clutch after over 10 years. I’d avoid Centerforce on a turbo engine.

Stock clutch will hold .5 just fine if it’s healthy. And THAT is IF you can stay at .5 bar. Once you get a taste of boost..... you want more!!!!

Sounds like I will need something a bit more than stock as I can see pushing the .5 bar up a bit. as i will have an IC and slightly lowered CR. I just know I will do it.

The stock pressure plate *might* hold if healthy, but the sure bet is a Kennedy Stage-1 with a new 930 spring hub clutch disc.

Thanks Chris,
Is the setup you describe a thigh master...is it much stiffer than normal? My left knee has some miles on it and not getting any younger. Thanks, Chris 89 G50 Carrera |

Still very driveable, not an on/off switch, thanks to the spring hub and high friction lining. Call or email for a quote on all parts.

I'd say my Kennedy stage 1 clutch is stiffer than my stock Cayman clutch on the same order of magnitude that the Cayman clutch is stiffer than a Honda Civic clutch. Yes it's stiffer but it's not too stiff even for occasional stop and go driving.
