964 Altitude adjusting wur

Will a 964 wur plug and play nicely on a 930? Seeing on road trips with altitudes varying from 12k above sea level to sea level I'm having to adjust my leask wur a lot.. hoping that a altitude 964t wur will cure my ailments!

Cheers,

I assume you are referring to the -160 version for the 3.3L 964T. It will plug and play but the specs are closer to that of a -153 from an '86-'89 930 than for a -112 Euro car. You might be able to richen it up with the idle mixture screw to get it closer to Euro spec. I'd mount an AFR meter and see what you have across the range before driving it too much.

Hi Brian. I'm not familiar with the version numbers. The wur out of a 86-89 has altitude compensation built in? they plan is if they were plug and play to buy one and have it rebuilt by flowtech and set up for altitude as another member has done on here locally and loves it after having a leask wur. Both had the same issues on roadtrips.

Guess I'm in the market for a 930 Wur from a 86-89 now. thanks for the help!

It is my understanding the altitude compensating WURs started with the 1991 964 Turbo - but if I’m wrong somebody please correct me.

No the -153 does not have altitude compensation, it has warm up and running specs that are closer to a -160 then that of the -112 Euro '79 930 WUR. You can have an adjustable WUR or an altitude compensating WUR but not both. If your engine requires the WUR specs to be adjusted outside of stock spec AND you need altitude compensation then the unit must be disassembled and the specs set manually, there will be no adjustability. This is trial and error to get perfect and should be set on the running car, especially the fuel pressure on boost.

If a 964T WUR was made adjustable by Leask, is it possible to convert it back to stock, “non adjustable” and have the altitude compensator reinstalled? Assuming you or he have one in a parts bin somewhere.

Got ya. thanks again for the info. With that being said. if I get my hands on a 964t altitude adjusting wur is this type of service something you can perform in terms in setting up that wur to work with my car?

Yes and somewhat.
Yes a 964T WUR modified for manual adjustment can be rebuilt back to stock.
Yes just about any WUR can be calibrated to different specs however the warm up curve remains original unless the bimetallic strip is changed out. That shouldn't be necessary if the other warm up devices are in place. The tricky part is the fuel pressure on boost with a modified engine. With a list of engine mods and fuel system data we can get it really close. Error on the rich side if not tuning on the car. You'll need a -160 or -164 core. Give me a holler, glad to help out however I can.
