Porsche exhaust flanges?
Does Porsche use a common exhaust flange across it's different heads?
If I am looking for a set of used Rarlyl8 headers, will I be limited by my SC heads for fitment? I was also considering the chance of swapping better heads when I do a rebuild if I find a deal on a better flowing set... would be nice to not have header fitment issues... I just don't know if Porsche had a common flange or if they did the German thing and added complexity for the fun of it. lol |

The quick answer is yes. The flange is either thick or thin flange, 930s use the thick flange, so you need the studs long enough to account for that. If using 993 headers, you’ll have to rotate the flanges as they are 180 deg off on one side.

I am just trying to make sure if I find a set of used Rarlyl8 930 turbo headers that they will bolt up to my heads.

Yes they should bolt up to your SC heads, thin flange or thick flange. There have been several evolutionary changes over the years but the flanges stayed the same. They fit either thin or thick flange studs. We use thin flanges and add a spacer to allow for thick flange fitment. Those spacers can be removed if using thin flange studs. The one thing you do need to look for is if the flanges had the optional gasket protectors. Our 1.5" primary headers had that option to fit inside the OEM 930 port. I believe these should also fit the SC but not Carrera. The 1.63" primary version did not have gasket protectors as these had a larger ID that could accommodate ported heads. If you find a set give me a call and I'll tell you what you have.

Hi all,
I have a set of 930 headers that Chris is looking at. I believe these are thin flange with spacers and gasket protectors. See pictures. While the headers will bolt up, how is he going to connect the muffler? He will need to purchase additional pipes - correct? |

Is this going on a NA build or a turbo? Strike that question, I just looked at your build, low pressure turbo on SC. Cool.

Muffler connects to the turbo, has nothing to do with the headers.
Yes that version was designed for stock 930 heads with gasket protectors.

Note that headers using the thick flanges have a section of the pipe that inserts into the exhaust outlet of the head, while thin flange headers fit flush. Both types obviously use gaskets to seal the flange when fastened up.

Hey Rarlyl8, these should bolt up to my SC heads? Would I need anything else?
I don't plan to run a muffler, just a Rarlyl8 Zork tube ![]() |

OK, I get it now. I didn't realize this was a turbo conversion.
I think these will work fine. Dave |
