How much (gulp) do you have into your turbo build?
Now that I have started on the turbo road, and before I get to deep in I am wondering what kind of money people have dumped into their car. Specifically the engine set up.

i think I am still under 10k so far.
but I twin plugged it and ported the intakes. I have bought some of the stuff to go EFI but nothing as far as fuel related yet. I do have the MS3. most of your expense is machine work. I budgeted 15k. just bought turbokrafts rocker shaft nuts yesterday. trust me, the spending is easy in the beginning but then the 2-300 here there gets to you in the end. waiting on piston squirters to come so I can start putting it together. still need to do some powder coating but I keep putting it off. also doing it myself. |

i have been waiting over a month for mine ..i was one of the lucky few that had 6.2mm squirters installed from the factor so i need to drill the block to fit the oversized ones ...... Ln Engineering a reseller for Taomina has them in stock. i ordered mine on monday and just received them this morning. if you are in need a set of the standard taormina 6mm squirters with the 2mm orifice the correct ones for the turbos i have the set i ordered by accident. adam was very helpful and and said i could return them but if you need them i can mail them to you $330 for the set of 6 no tax or shipping Regards Ned |

60K into an engine to make 600HP, LOL and today the Ford F250 will do that N/A with a Cam and some tuning. hehehehe.

I need the 6.6 I am lucky in that I have an 86 with different sized holes so I get to drill them out to 6.6 I bought the 640 Loctite but was looking at the spec on the 620 Loctite. the 620 fills bigger gaps, has a higher strength and higher temp tolerance. |

he downloaded some software and did a few bolt on mods and was blowing away my 930. much much better on the turbo lag. but it aint no Porsche!!! and it certainly does not attract the attention like my 930 does. |
Modification costs run a very broad range, new vs used, 300whp to 600+whp, custom or high end parts vs generic. Many ways to skin the cat as well. If you share your performance goals we can get really close to what the cost would be.

I spent around $12k for cams, headers, turbo, inter-cooler, and miscellaneous bits. I can't believe you got head work too for $10k? |

Now you know ( your post ) more about ( gulp) what you could spend depending how deep you want to dive into a turbo build. I'm sure some have spent even more especially to get to the front at the road race track. I bought it already built, and now just had to rebuild it to a higher spec, otherwise just the current parts cost would have been even more. Actually the original build got well over 700 and now over 800 ( crank ). Once you get past 300 wheel / 350 crank or so bolt on HP and go inside to make and handle more HP the cost will increase dramatically. |
rarlyl8, I think my final vision would be 300-350whp or a lil more, a 930 gearbox, and steel 930 flares.
I think that package would make for a very fun to drive 911. |
Without the gearbox and bodywork I’d budget $20k for the motor. Don’t forget bigger brakes and fatter wheels and tires. Fun stuff!

First of all... where are the pics!?!
I think I’m in around 40k and that’s doing the work myself..., 3.4 twin plugged and ported heads, efi, cams, rods, custom Center mount headers, gt4094r turbo, full bay intercooler, plus all the details... 600hp In my 935 tribute. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1583555857.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1583555857.jpg |
One formula I used to get to 300whp is Euro engine specs and exhaust, RarlyL8 muffler and K27-7200 turbo. Add RarlyL8 headers and get an instant 350whp. Then increase exhaust port size, larger turbo, larger Intercooler, cams and CIS mods gets you 400whp. Beyond that the $/HP curve gets really steep.

Yea, I think 400WHP would be my top end goal, I think that things get stupid from there even for Porsche prices.
OBR $40K for that monster is pretty amazing to be honest. I was rough guessing $40K for everything when it is all said and done, maybe a bit more but roughly... and I think I could stomach that. $40K to have a 400HP wide turbo Porsche doesn't make me want to hit things. |

To add to what Brian said, 400HP is the affordable upper limit because that's pretty much all you can get out of the CIS. To step up from there means committing to EFI, and that involves a lot of expensive parts, mods, and time.
