Fuel Pump(s) Switch

Ignition barrel is worn and priming fuel pumps for a cold start can be a touchy subject. Has anyone wired a dash-mounted fuel pump switch on a street car? Pros/cons? Easy job? The car is a mostly stock '78 3.3L. I don't really care about originality.

Replace the ignition switch before it strands you.

Yes. Top switch is pumps, bottom button is for CSV.

And before I get a bunch of "you're going to get burnt alive because the pumps won't shut off when you roll it", the original air meter contact sw is disconnected and replaced with an inertia sw in the engine compartment. This eliminates the air meter contacts and the stupid red relay. I also replaced the original round pump relays in the fuse box with modern Hella's.

Not to be picky, but yellow relay, right? At least the standard one is a yellow relay. I've long had a standard square relay there, couple of bucks vs the ~$300 yellow one.

It doesn't even need to be a red relay or a relay with a quenching diode as its not an inductive load.

No, it's red. It's J16 on the circuit diagram for a '79. Located on the back electrical panel. The coil terminals 85 and 86 are in the same line as the air meter contacts. It has the diode to protect the air meter contacts. I jumpered 86 to 85 in the relay block and I use the juice from 85 to supply my Pierburg valve and then to the MSD RPM sw. My inertia sw is across terminals 30 and 87a of the same block which then goes to the boost limit sw. My dash sw for the pumps is in the line supplying power to the pump relay coils (86 and 85) but it is switched 12v so downstream from the ign sw.

Momentary on button for the CSV eliminates the stupid thermo-time sw.

Blew the doors off a '70 SS 396 Chevelle today, caught 2nd and went by him like he was standing still.

Where did you mount your inertia switch?
I've had one on the shelf for a while and need to install it.

It will be difficult if you have no experience. Take it to the repair shop and it won't cost much
