1977 Turbo Carrera 3.3 Engine
Hi, my dad had a 1977 930 Turbo many years ago, and is looking for another.
He has begun to wonder what exactly was done to his first one in order to perform the way it did, and how much power it possibly made. The car had a 3.3l to replace the stock 3.0l, RUF front mount oil cooler, a 4spd manual, some variation of a K27 turbo, it was said to have titanium pistons, rods, and crank but that is unknown, the car had an upgraded intercooler, had a 964 throttle body, and had a 1.8 bar spring which would overboost to 2.0 bar on the RUF gauge on the interior. The car ran strong and was healthy and cemented the 930 as his favorite car. As I said before, he simply wants to know a general idea of what parts may have been on it, and how much power it may have made. Thanks!

Try the 930 forum. A lot of the most knowledgeable turbo guys don’t post here.

Without knowing the cams or the C/R, estimated hp could be in the 325-375 range. Or not.

The titanium part is a bit wild and the ruf gauge must have shown absolute pressure so it was 0.8 to 1 bar of boost.

Just for clarification, there are no Ti crankshafts or pistons, but Ti connecting rods are a possibility, even though unlikely. With slightly raised boost and an upgraded turbo and intercooler, the power could have been around 325-350 hp. Bigger cam, twin plugging, etc. could have brought it up some more. Guessing at what specific parts were used would require us to know when all the work was done and by whom/where.

The pic shows an enlarged tail base, would love to see a pic of the intercooler that was in there....
Cheers

No, it was a 1.8 spring, but the wastegate was worn and would allow it to overboost to 2.0. The heads broke and the car had issues because if it. It still had an OEM boost gauge and would max that out easily.

I thought this was the 930 forum? Is Rawknees a real person or just some bizzaro sex bot?

1.8 bar spring would need massive fueling mods so can you elaborate on those? Also Im not sure K27 and that much boost goes well as the hot housing would back pressure like crazy?
