Need Advice on CCW Wheels

Well, due to a near total unavailability of anything other than R compounds in fat rear tire sizes... Looks like my 16 inch period BBS RS's are gonna get put on a shelf.

So Now I am in the market for some new CCW's, and unless anyone has some Classics with 930 fitment in either 17 or 18 inch (and if you do, drop me a PM), I am very partial to the LM20.

Is anyone running the LM20 on a 930? If so I'd love to see some pictures of your fitment with any details you may have.

and onto the great debate: Do I go with 17's which look PERFECT on these cars, knowing I have limited tire sizes and future unavailability.

Or go 18, knowing they look a little silly, but I am spoiled for choice on tires.

Post pics of your 17 or 18 inch setups to help me choose, or even a 17 front / 18 rear combo. I am open to everything.

Some pics of my current setup.....

Here are mine--17X9 and 17X11 Fikse FM10. You can find them here in the FS section from time to time. Way better than CCWs.

I have two sets, CCW and Braid BZ. Love them both for different reasons. Both sets are 17x9 & 17x11.5, running 255/40 and 315/35 tires. 18s just don't look right on these cars, in my opinion, but sadly we may have to end up there eventually due to future tire availability. G bodies with 17s look ok, early turbos look really good with super-wide 15s.

Rey's incredible early turbo:

Another style 17" Fikse forged wheels to consider for a 930. From last time I looked I think 9" fronts and 13" rears.

They look better (IMO), are forged, easier to clean, and don't have all those goofy extra holes for cars with different lug configurations.

If memory serves, I think the CCW centers are forged, and the lips are spun. The extra holes mean the center is a "comp" model, and are intended as a lightening measure. They are not there to accommodate other bolt patterns. If you compare the wheels in my post to the ones on Jacob's car, you can see the street (mine) vs the competition (his). The street version also had a choice for a center cap, whereas the comp model did not. At the time, my car was much more civilized, which is why I went the street route. Would've ordered the comp version if I knew where the car would be headed in the coming years.

Another difference is the inner, outer, and center on the CCWs are joined by a bolt and a nut (through hole), whereas the Fikses have hidden hardware. Not sure if the bolts holding the halves and the center together directly screw into the aluminum on the Fikse, or if there is a more robust insert. I have never taken one apart. Both brands have been used in racing, on OE teams as well as pro-level privateers, so there is enough data that they hold up to the stresses of hard track use.

The main reason I went with the CCW back in the day was that John (he owned CCW at the time) was awesome and easy to deal with, with great pricing and turnaround. He kept his overhead low and passed the savings onto his customers. The reason I also have the BZs is because Paul (he IS Braid USA) is a friend, and local to me, and we used my car and a friend's '77 930 to work out the initial offsets for the BZ 17 prototype. Good times.

To me, the CCW, Braid, Fikse, and the Ruf all look great on the 930. The Fikse has a more "finished" look compared to the CCW, as it has some neat design details on the center. For sure, the extra CNC mill time is why there was a substantial price delta between them and the CCWs. Rufs were just as expensive and unattainable then as they are now (relatively speaking).

The CCW LM20 is 3 piece, forged, and does not have that multi hole pattern of early classics, totally different wheel.

Rey's incredible early turbo:

Your car is what inspired me on the CCW website actually. What tires are running in 315x17?

Cool!!! That was back when it looked nice and clean! The shots with the CCW were taken just about the next day from getting the wheels, the tires were Kumho Victoracers (which are NLA). I switched to Nitto NT-01s after that. When I get the car back on the road again, the CCWs will likely get Hoosiers, and the Braids will run on NT-01s. As for availability of other brands, I am not sure. I think Nitto runs their NT-05 as well as the NT555 in a 315x17, Goodyear had an Eagle in that size, and Toyo makes a 315x17 in the R888, I think; but not sure of any other brands. Check TireRack, I'm not too current on what is out there.

I have an unmounted set of Goodyear Eagles that are just over 10 years old, but were stored out of the sun in a non-damp basement. Not sure if they need to be booted in the trash or if they are OK to use given their age. They are soft and pliable like a new tire.

edit: I didn't realize these shots were still on the CCW site!!! They got their money's worth, I took these on the rooftop level of a hotel parking lot near me.

I stand corrected on my criticism of the CCWs. Thanks for setting me straight.
