I had a new 997 in 2007 and loved the car. 15 yrs on I want another. What is best year. I want a 6 spd but just read the 2009 had a manumatic that can blip the throttle on a downshift. Zat true?
Any input appreciated

From what I've heard you want a 09 manual. prior to the switch to it going to a 997.2. You get the electronic upgrades of a .2 but retain the .1 turbo engine. not sure of the throttle blip functions.. just learn heal n toe :]

Ahhh there are (very few) bennies to being an old fart. One of them is over 100 p cars have gone thru my hands. I have all the books and websites and Excellence mags and market guides but it seems that none of the usual "go to" places break down the Turbo specifically year over year. So I pinged Pelican hoping someone has the detailed knowledge I'm after. I can afford the 2012 but not sure it is worth the extra money if there are no little "have to have" upgrades. My 07 Turbo was a auto and I hated it and the silly buttons on the steering wheel. Only non-stick Porsche I've ever owned other than CTT. Purchased only to get another half second. (I didn't say I was smart)
Appreciate any details on the Turbo. Thanks

I would get a 10-12 tts, fastest one anyways. Launch control is fun and worth pdk.

Is the launch control part of the sport chrono sport button that gives you the 10 sec. boost or something different?

To answer the OPs question, the 2009 introduced the PDK and yes the launch control is part of the sport chrono package.

I previously had a Carrera S 997.2 with pdk sport chrono and it was ridiculously quick. Launch control is nothing short of amazing and shifts between gears are faster than humanly possible. The only downside with the pdk IMO is that it seems to be a part that cant be serviced or repaired it it ever goes out. Porsche just replaces the box at a tune of $25k plus. The flip side is you'll never miss a gear!
