Turbo 3.2 or Swap 3.3 Turbo Engine

I have a 76 911S that the previous owner had 930 steel flares welded on in the 90s. He also installed a 3.2 Carrera engine in it.

The car is rough (but drives) and the engine is in unknown mileage/condition. I was planning on doing a nice rebuild of the 3.2 engine to make it a really fun twin turbo setup.

Recently though, someone offered me a 3.3 Turbo engine from his car to trade for my 3.2 Carrera engine, along with $15k on top from me.

Anyone have any thoughts or opinions?

Going to have my trusted mechanic look over the 3.3 Turbo to get some details on its condition.

Car would be a bare-bones street legal weekend track toy.

Thanks all!

Your deal sounds excellent, for the other guy.

Look at this ad, it’s sort of a mess but I believe there is a mostly complete 930 engine being offered here at $15k obo. It looks like he was going carrera intake plus efi but he might still have factory injection, exhaust, turbo etc.

I was on your exact same situation, I have a '77 911S that the previous owner (he was the 1st owner) added steel Porsche OEM turbo flares with RUF front valance and a 3.2 swap. Finally I decided to add a turbo to the 3.2 using some basic parts, follow my thread of describing how I did it and what is my final opinion about it :

You're already half way there to making more power than the 3.3. You have efi and with a flash and less compression you'd have lots more potential. Look up Protonmotive turbo upgrade for 3.2 and you'll see that you're pretty close already to boost.

The other thing to remember is that the CIS system in the turbo engine is a generation behind the Motronic of the 3.2. The 3.2 intake system is also much better (manifold, throttle body, etc). You can get a great chip tune from Todd Knighton at Protomotive, and he will help with the whole system, especially if you are going to do new pistons, etc. I’d also recommend going to 3.4 as long as you are doing the top end anyhow. My $0.02.

This is great advice. Thank you everyone for talking me out of hooking someone else up at a huge expense to my situation. Will keep the 3.2 and turbo it!
