Turbo Longhood
I've had both this car and a 930 drivetrain sitting here for several years and finally got around to puzzling it together. It's consumed a stall in my garage for 20 months but finally ran today for the first time. You might notice it looks non turbo at the moment, since the engine is a complete unknown to me I left off the turbo, scavenge pump, and oil cooler circuit until I can run it and grab an oil sample to ensure it's not making metal. It will save me from having to clean the cooler circuit and turbo if these parts were to get contaminated.
One thing I can say is as much as the early 901 and 930 drivetrain look similar, nothing fits. Everything needs tweaking for this transplant. Rundown of the components 83 930 long block 964 cams Intake ports opened to 41mm Carrera intake Powerhaus headers Light 45mm turbosmart wastegate Some aftermarket muffler K27 7200 SDS injection No intercooler planned Shortened 930 4 speed LSD 1970 911 chassis Modified tunnel for the 930 transaxle Inverted cartridge bilsteins Raised spindles Bump steer rod ends Aluminum x member Aluminum trailing arms Adjustable spring plates 930 torsions and carrera front swaybar 930 A arms (for the antidive spacers) 15x7 fuchs Skinny little S brakes and aluminum front calipers Hoping it will be light, sub 2400 perhaps? I'll know in the next few days once I get the suspension set up. Without turbo hips the car seems so small but I certainly miss the turbo hips. Looking forward to getting the turbo on it! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Very cool.
Only 1 factory turbo longhood. The R5 chassis racer. A converted NA 2.8 RSR. Huge thread here on it.

Ahhh I noticed Turbo R5 tribute in your signature and figured I need to get to know this guy. Never realized that referred to a 911.
Turbo R5 tribute, ditched to focus on my turbo 1970.

Jim...what's your goal for rwhp on the blue 911? I suppose it won't be more than 250 rwhp due to small brakes and small tires. I wonder what happened to all of the photos on your old threads such as your 930 project relocating the intercooler similar to the turbo RSR.

Hey Mike, this engine isn't much different from my old 930. With the exception the 930 was twin plug most everything else here is identical, cams, intake, headers, turbo etc. Prior to adding an intercooler to the EFI conversion on the 930 it made 381hp at 12psi. This 911 should be around the same territory and with few back to back 100 to 0 events I'm hoping the brakes will do. I believe these brakes are similar/same to those on the early 77 turbos. Tires? The current hockey pucks are positively going to get turned to smoke as best as 12psi can do, I'm hoping it will be epic.
My old project photos were hosted by our internet company who decided to discontinue hosting services. Moving them elsewhere was beyond me, my skill is limited to a hammer, wrench, and sometimes fire. |

Pushing 400hp with skinny tires...that's going to be a handful!! Your 911 will be a sleeper! That's a bummer about losing your linked photos.

The Turbo R5 tribute in my picture is a Renault R5 Turbo imposter. stupid project to begin with and not worth my time invested. My 911 on the other hand was a narrow body from the get go, and will remain narrow even though I prefer the look of turbo size flares.
