Yeek - got followed

Driving my dirty 79 930. Driving home on freeway theres a lowered late model honda behind me. I merge to right lane, then take offramp to another freeway. Honda changes lanes at last minute and is behind me. Into left lane, then left exit to overpass at nice speed and slow onto city street. Still honda is behind me. Left uturn at light doubling back and right turn and still honda is following. What r the chances? Car is still following 1/4 mile later so decide to go park at school instead of going home. Stop to Turn right at stop sign the honda pulls up next to me, guy holding card out the window?

“Is your car for sale?!” We buy cars like that All The Time! I wave and turn away. Drive an obscure route, park on random street and read email on phone, dont want him following me home.

What an ass. Notes are one thing but See a car you like on freeway and follow it? Or is it because its dirty and im driving it in the winter rain?

I got followed home once. Well, not all the way home. After about a 2-hour slog through traffic, I lost him on an freeway offramp/onramp transition.

I got followed all the way home once. Was creepy but turned out to be a neighbor whose father was restoring a wide body cab. Had a great discussion and enjoyed meeting him.

He did apologize for following me and creeping me out. LOL. Really nice guy.

Guess I got lucky!

While I never followed anyone I did meet another Porsche owner at a gas station one time. I was in my black 1985 Turbo and he was in his black 1994 Turbo 3.6. He pulled up the the gas pump directly in front of me. After introductions I handed him my business card and said "if you ever decide to sell this car please call me". He called me almost 2 years later and said he wanted to sell his car. I bought it that day. Wish I still had that car today. Dumb me sold it about 18 months after I bought it.

Haven't any of you ever watched the show Counting Cars? That's how he buys many of his project cars.

Yeah understood. On the one hand it’s hustle - he’s going after those dollar signs. But what the heck made him follow me so far out of his way? Got a super creepy vibe from him. Like frat boy turned scammer - cars is his side hustle when he isn’t pawning stolen phones. He had one sentence to say and he chose: “we buy cars like that all the time.” Is that so I should trust his expertise? Be excited that he’ll take care of me after following me home?

I can totally imagine an interaction that was positive and this was the opposite. I just can’t see how it could ever go well for this guy to follow cars home from freeway. Nope.

Guy really needs to work on his presentation. Maybe id want to talk to him if he was driving a cool Italian car from the 50s-70s.

I've had a couple of folks knock on my door, one left a flyer and came back driving a tow-truck to enquire again. I opened the door wearing a shoulder holster and when he asked if the car was for sale my reply was "scuse-me, did you see any for sale signs?"
Another actually came in my yard, and left a card on the windshield, I call the number and when we spoke, I told him he was lucky I wasn't there that day or may have lost an arm... long sleave or short sleave? No trespassing signs are posted.

A little aggressive.. well yes, they seem to understand that much better than a simple no.

I'm always on the lookout for people following me. Paranoid? Yes. But these days I think you have to. I doubt someone in a lowered Honda was looking to 'buy' a Porsche.

I do drive significantly faster than surrounding traffic so if someone is following me, it's pretty noticeable.

The guys on counting cars usually try to get you to pull over to chat on a main street. They don't follow people home and their not driving lowered Hondas, so yeah I totally understand the apprehension.

I like this approach. Gorgeous 930 you have.

I was followed one time coming home from work, but it was a black new Mercedes which looks very expensive to me with a lady behind the wheel, she was following me for about 30 min until I stopped in my drive way when she rolled down the window and asked if I would sell my car, I told her sorry, not for sale, then she told that her husband loves old Porsches and she want to buy one for him for his birthday! .. I came in and told my wife the story!

your reply should have been "yes it's for sale" and then give them the "not for sale asking price" which would be 2-3X's the market price...see how quickly they leave...might even get a burn out from them...lol

Well... just to let everyone know... I will trade straight across for an f40 in good condition. I'd be happy with that trade. Or maybe a btr. Otherwise... meh... There's a market and my 'next level' is pretty far from attainable.

There was no fun to be had with this guy, even a ridiculous price would only encourage him. How's someone that follows cars supposed to compete with the dingBATs? His value add is to flip. Did I mention he was really creepy?

I was in one of my S2000's with my wife coming home from a show and stopped when I saw an elderly couple at the end of a commercial driveway with the frunk popped open... 87 Black on Black 930...

He was moving the cheesecake from the interior to the frunk so his wife didn't have to hold it. We had a good conversation and I told him about my 911 projects. We exchanged #'s since he was considering selling it soon and we stayed in touch for the next year or so.

I had opportunity to buy it but was young and dumb. He ended up selling it to a buddy who knew of someone looking for a car like that.. missed opportunity on my end @$70k. Won't ever sleep on a deal again.

Yeah but thats totally different because s2000 are cool. That's like trying to stalk someone in an nsx.

$70k for a 930, ha! They'll never be worth that much. Dreamin!
