930 changes through 78-89

Hello, I couldn't find the topic, and I am curious about what changes have been applied to widowmakers through the years. Where to look for such information? I know about the changes made since 78, but I couldn't find precise info on what was added in later years, except the G50 gearbox in the last 930 productions. I lastly read a short 911 article, where the author mentioned that In 1986, Porsche changed the front fender's length by 6 mm, counting from the A-pillar to the beginning of the fender at the contact with the tailgate. Does anyone know more about such changes(or can confirm/deny the mentioned one)?

what are "valve covers with tread pattern"? I have an 82 Turbo and have no idea what they are talking about. My mind thinks tire tread but maybe something is lost in translation? The valve covers are just like any other 911's valve covers.

This is a good source, thx. But I am still inquisitive about the possible minor body updates, like the fenders(if this is true). Any idea where to look for after them?

PET shows 930 lower covers for everything now; but originally I think even SCs had the flat covers.

I don't think there were any changes to the body panels throughout the life of the 930, besides that the earlier cars' fender flares were hand-welded. Other changes (off the top of my head): early cars have different dashboard ventilation (and blower), different AC condenser, snorkel headlight washers, no catalytic converters, no lamda/O2 feedback, no ignition/fuel cutoff circuit, narrower wheels/tires, different front valance and fog lights, different seats (after 1980), other interior trim changes (e.g., no leather covering on door pulls, no power locks, etc.), and changes to the stereo/cassette player, speakers, and antenna.

don't forget the front wheel spacers on the earlier cars that were integrated into the hubs on the later cars.

Early rotors were fully-floating on hats, IIRC, think rotors went fixed when the hubs were changed to incorporate the spacers.

Strictly speaking, the 74-80 seats, the 81-84 seats and the 85-89 seats are distinct/separate generations. Tried for years to find era-appropriate Sport seats for my '77 (really should have bought that running Craigslist 924 with leather Sport seats for $1500 when I had the chance!) and eventually fitted the late SC ones.

Thx f9r the input everyone. So from what I see, there is no reliable info about the chassis/body updates, except the fenders welding in early stages. I was also curious about 930.60 - 930.68 engine updates, but cant find it too. Wysane z mojego SM-G970F przy uyciu Tapatalka

Also, 74-76 930 had unboosted brakes (and 911 calipers/rotors, usually the alloy S calipers apparently), the '77 MY 930 used the same 911 brakes, with the addition of the same #911.355.027.00 7" booster that the '77 911 used. In 1978, they switched to the 8" booster for the SC & 930, #930.355.027.00. Which stayed until 1985, when they changed again to the 930.355.027.02 booster for the 930 and M491 option cars; this apparently has a higher slave ratio (3:1, as compared to 2.25:1 for the earlier servos).

In 1978 Porsche moved the engine rearward 1.5 inches which is why they do not handle as well as the 1975-77 930s and are considered more of a boulevard cruiser. ;-) Flame suit on! Rahl
