Auto heat sensor in flapper box

I’m replacing my heater flapper boxes and I can not get the auto heat sensor out of the left side box. Any tips? I don’t plan on restoring my auto heat but I’d rather not cut the wire if I don’t have to.

On mine the sensor has two metal ears that were riveted (not screwed or bolted) onto the box; drill out the rivets. If (because) space is tight use a dremmel tool.
