Project "PAPI" 1987 930 - 600+ HP Build
Hello everyone,
We got our hands on a 1987 930 aka "PAPI" (check out the seats..) ![]() A little bit about the car: - Heavily modified by previous owner - Claimed power was 600+ HP - Precision 6266 - Burn damage in the rear passenger area - Coilovers - Aftermarket ECU Car is overall, a bit of a basket case. Previous owner was in the process of re-wiring the entire car so engine management (Haltech) was cut off and lots of components removed that came with the car. Car has some minor fire damage from being next to something (?) that was burning. Has 964 style bumpers and aftermarket side skirts. The interior is goofy and overall the car is a clean slate for us to do whatever the heck we want. We pulled the motor last night. Video will be edited and posted on my channel in a week or so. Shameless plug --> https://youtube.com/superishmario https://superishmario.com/ ![]() (Subscribe, drop a like or two, and maybe buy a shirt to support this addiction lol) The goal: We would like to troubleshoot what the car needs to have it run reliably. We will be checking the overall health of the motor (compression test, leak down, anything else??). Since the motor is out, we will be doing all the nessesary body work and choosing new bumpers to suite the car better. We will also be redoing the interior etc. This is where we need the help of you experts! YES, this thing is a project and a half, and most likely could be very bad (engine toast etc). NO, we are not Porsche technicians, so in your humble option, where would you start since the car essentially has no brains right now. - Original ECU / harness? - Newer Haltech / harness? - Newer AEM stand alone / harness? - What else?? What is out there in the 930 world that we should know about? Who makes good wiring harnesses that will work for this application? Where would you start? Appreciate your time for reading and looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks!! ![]() ![]() ![]() more to come.. so grab your popcorn ![]()

Some people like the Haltech ECU. In that price range, we prefer Link's G4X (ex: Fury) and at the next higher price point, the Motec M130. They'll control everything the typical high performance street/track 930 needs, and then some.
We'd advise first setting a goal, clearly defining what you want the car to do: how much power and torque, how the power delivery should come on, what the idle should sound like, how it should drive, etc. Then assess what all has really been done to the car: engine work (rods, P&Cs, head work, cams, etc), exhaust, intercooler, etc. Include suspension and brakes. Then you can determine what can be reused vs what needs to be replaced to meet your goal.
