Wishing I could make it. I live about 45 minutes from there, but a sciatica flare up will keep me from driving the spoolbus for awhile

Here's why we call it the chocolate rocket. Very cool car and owner.

Look up the Diamondback. It is close to Little Switzerland NC. Easily 10 times as good a road
and you can actually go faster than 5 miles an hour.... which happens all the time on the Dragon.
Much much better roads not far from there. T

Hmm.. never been to the dragon and did 5 mph. There are plenty of pull offs, and slower traffic usually always yields to faster traffic. Also, you need to know what time of day to go up there. I agree, though, there are several roads that are just as good. I would rather go on a road that has big sweeping turns, than hairpins. Another option is Hwy 116 in Morgan and Anderson Counties in TN. That road is becoming more popular for sure.

I'll take 80, 226, and 226A over ToD any day. Done both many times.

I actually go up 80 to the parkway, take the parkway (north) into Little Switz, go down 226, them come back up 226a. 226a is much better to climb in a turbo. then have lunch in LS, then head back south on the parkway to the Pisgah Inn for dinner, then head home. Great day of driving.

Dragon is a PITA, Cherohala Skyway is what the Dragon wishes it could be.

I've done the dragon twice and I'll never do it again. Both times I barely got out of first, lots of slow vehicles and motorcycles. One time cops were literally lining the road every 1/4 mile. Giant waste of time imho.

also been there twice (and done Cherhola), both times on my motorcycle, and both times pre-google, before the area gained the level of attention it has today.

saw zero cops, rode the wheels off my bike, and wore out a set of knee pucks while I was there. awesome. yes it would suck if crowded....true of any road.

yes I think the problem is that it has become very popular. The pendulum will swing back the other way at some point.

Try Rt 16 in Virginia. Marian to Tazewell. Excellent curves, no traffic, no poseurs, no videographers, no cops.
