Convert 993 to 993 turbo
I am really liking the 993 Turbos but prices are high. So, I was thinking of buying a 95 wide C4 coupe and then having the motor turbo charged and possibly modify for more performance. Besides lower compression pistons, bolts, and the usual turbo stuff, would this be a difficult conversion? Anyone have a parts list?

IMO, if you have fabrication skills and determination, it’s isn’t too difficult. Yes, there will be headaches along the way, but that’s par for the course. With todays turbo and intercooler efficiency, lowering compression may not be needed.

Single turbo, twin turbo or a faithful replica of 993 Turbo?

I think the 993 twin turbo replica would be good and if there is a way to bump up the hp a bit to 500-550+ crank hp on pump gas without sacrificing drivability on street I think that would be perfect.

1 bar of boost should net you that with no other things done.

Turbo'ing any engine is not that defficult; the hardest part propably be the wiring and the tune, as I would NEVER turbo any engine using stock wiring/ecu.

Been there. Even running 100% methanol I couldn’t get to 1bar. Pulled out timing until it fell on its face. CR, that’s where it’s at.

What's the stock static C/R? 11.5:1 I think!

Static is published at 11.3 for both 993 and the 964 as well.

Steve Weimer stated 10.6-10.8:1 actually.
Overstated apparently. |

Easy solution, swap in 993 Turbo pistons, 8-1 compression. And putting in a longer duration camshaft will also help bleed off a bit of cylinder pressure to make things survive at higher boost levels.

+1
Start with 8:1 pistons, and standalone engine management. There were no factory widebody non-turbo cars in 1995.

Widebody of the 993 didn’t come out until 97 in the form of C2S or C4S. A nice one of either will run you $135-60k…add another $50k+ for engine and possibly transmission work and you’re at 993 Turbo money.

There's a thread here from a few years back with a pretty decent build sheet. Perhaps it might help with the brainstorming process:

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like more to research before going with this as option.
One more question, besides the turbo engine and rear spoiler, are there other significant differences between the turbo and 98 wide body? Last edited by MST0118; 12-05-2023 at 08:56 PM.. |
