3.3 Turbo engine

Looking for a complete OEM 3.3 Turbo engine. Something that was running when removed and needs a rebuild. Does anyone have thoughts on cost to buy an engine?

Looking at a 3.3 engine with 60,000 miles. Its still in the car so its complete. Looks to be dry on the bottom side. Hasn't run in many years maybe 10? Owner taking about 18,000 for it. Does this sound okay for pricing?

Depends on why it has been sitting for 10 years. Another question is why is the owner selling the engine out of the car and not the entire car? I'd consider the engine a core and value as such. Are cores worth $18k these days?

The car hit a tree and has been setting since. The chassis is sold if he can find someone to buy the engine. The gas tank is split on a seam and leaks fuel. Probably not a good idea to try and start. Engine does turn over manually. Sooo if its considered a core how should a person price that?

So the story is plausible then that the motor is actually good. If it were me, I'd do a leakdown test. Without running it, it will be hard to assess much beyond that. It might be somewhat reassuring if the owner can show any maintenance records leading up to the accident. $18k would be cheap for a running 930 engine. This one is more like "maybe running" so ideally would be a little cheaper since you can't see it run. If you are able to get some confidence the engine isn't toast, it could just be a good deal, maybe needing not much like just a reseal or possibly top end rebuild. It would be a little roll of the dice of course.

Out of curiosity, what state is the engine in? We might know of the car.

Have a fresh rebuilt 3.3L T engine minus the Intake system. Has Fan shroud and some sheet metal.

Neil, Don't think I could afford one of your engines, but what a wonderful thought. Engine turns over by hand. Did get a leak-down on it. Cold no added oil in the cylinders. #1 10% #2 15% #3 22% #4 8% #5 18% #6 14%. Hope these are okay?

The engine was completely rebuilt. Has painted shroud, Powder coated and Gold Cad parts etc. Zero hours. Rebuilt as a long block to sell.

Completely stock. Has no Exhaust system or Intake system. Consider a completely rebuilt stock long block.

I need to check what major parts were replaced.

From memory, the Crank and Rods were recon'd. Heads have new Guides but I need to check on Valves. Springs were replaced.
Not sure if the Cylinders were replated or replaced or if Pistons were replaced. Cams and rockers are stock. Need to check if the Rockers were recon'd.

All other parts are brand new. Will let you know.

As mentioned above, the health of the motor will determine the price.
I agree with Brian. It’s worth around $18k as a core and should be considered as such unless you can determine otherwise.
These motors aren’t cheap to rebuild. Id want to see a leak down test at a minimum.
Or better yet reach out to Neil and pay for proven product from a reputable source with decades of experience

Did a leakdown. See earlier posting for the results. No previous paper work from current owner. Still trying to figure out what to offer for price?

Those leakdown #s are not horrid, but neither are they suggesting a tight fresh motor. You should not be surprised if you find a few surprises. And as has been posted, once you have to open it, get your chq book out.
Alternatively - talk to Neil.

Sorry, very busy and I did forget to get you some photos.

Will do ASAP. Engine is fresh, zero hours. Have to dig out file to give exact build and parts.

I can send photos and info if I have your email. The engine is owned by my friend. I worked with him at Andial years ago in the race engine shop. He worked there for years building race engines. He rebuilt this engine in my shop. I have spoken to him and he will contact you himself once we have an email address.

Engine was built properly as you would expect someone of his ability's and experience. It has never run since the rebuild. Zero hours.

Maybe give me a clue of what you are willing to pay for such and engine?

I'd try and borescope it. There are plenty of cheap digital USB ones on Amazon. I've also used the dental camera ones. Get a look inside the cylinders.

Maybe its possible to pull off the crank case breather cover and/or chain housing covers to get a look inside as well?

Regardless, try and get them to state a number first. First one with a number usually looses. If they won't, start really low. Like $8k for engine, transmission, and all accessories.

Hey Neil thought this was one of your engines, going to continue with the engine local. Good idea on pulling the cam covers and sticking bore scope inside.
