Building a 3.2 short stroke

I have a 3.0 liter to rebuild now the saga begins! 3.2 short stroke turbo build using electronic ignition, m\Megasquirt 3, Garrett GT35 turbo euro, exhaust, twin plug

gsmith660 04-06-2024 07:21 AM

This is what I am starting with. It is rougher than I expected but I will take what I can. The machinist I went through is now requesting that the seller supply the parts that were unusable but the internals so far seem to be in good reusable shape. More pics to come as I break it down.

You'd be surprised how nice the outsides come up, after a decent media blast then vapour hone...

gsmith660 04-07-2024 03:39 AM

I am getting 3.2 P/Cs but I may clean them up and if they are good may sell them

mepstein 04-07-2024 04:16 AM

I have never been able to get money for used 3.0 p&c’s.

patina 04-07-2024 08:21 AM

Why is this in the Turbo subforum?

Because it is a turbo build

Well you answered my question about how much force I need to use to get the cylinders out

Rodsrsr 04-08-2024 07:09 PM

I think that's a great platform to start with.

Have it broke down to the case. The seller admitted he had no idea the condition of the motor was so bad and may be issuing a partial refund. All the major components will be off to get cleaned and checked and a plan be made of how to proceed in a week or two

gsmith660 04-10-2024 05:50 AM

Pulled the sump plate and screen and was pleased to see no metal on the magnet or the plate that’s a good sign.

gsmith660 04-10-2024 05:54 AM

For a turbo 3.2SS what oil pump does the brain trust recommend?

flat6pilot 04-10-2024 12:55 PM

I went with a 964 pump with turbo piston squirters on my 3.0l ---> 3.2 turbo build.

Did that require case mods other than removing the .8 mm squirrels and installing 1.2 mm?

gsmith660 04-17-2024 05:47 AM

All packed up going to get cleaned and checked

gsmith660 04-17-2024 04:48 PM

Some of the bits waiting to go back on after I get this put back together it’s gonna take time because this took me by surprise so I have to wait until money is available to buy parts I want.

Where did the motor originate? Are you turning the cab into a turbo cab? Was this car just sitting in someones driveway? How does a motor get that way?

Its been turbocharged for 9 years I recently blew up my 2.7 experiment this motor was in Florida and the seller had no idea how to store a motor so it was left to the elements. I have had this car since 1983
this is what I started with http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1713445795.jpg

KRLocke 04-18-2024 03:34 PM

Cool motor build, what kind of hp do you think you'll get?

gsmith660 04-18-2024 03:44 PM

Going to limit Hp to around 350 until I can get my hands on a G50 the limit I have heard for a 915 then what I have seen is 400-450 for this build

KRLocke 04-18-2024 05:44 PM

Looking forward to following your build.

I certainly didnt plan on doing this right now and probably wouldnt have until I found out how scarce 3 liters are becoming

KRLocke 04-20-2024 05:48 AM

A lot of things have become scarce and if not are priced astronomically. 3.2s are best example. What used to be a $6500 motor is now a base price of $15K for one probably needing work. Rebuilt 3.3s are $35K which seems like a bargain, if they were done right.

gsmith660 04-24-2024 05:27 AM

You are absolutely right the motor I have appears to be in great shape internally but externally it had many corrosion issues that I believe we have arrested so it can now be stored until assembly which hopefully is not too far off

gsmith660 05-06-2024 08:59 AM

Today I pressure test the external oil cooler and hoses looking for the leak that killed my motor havent found it yet

I heard you may need to remove some webbing to fit the 964 pump, but mine didn't. They installed and closed the case on it to check clearance and it was ok.

Thank you

gsmith660 05-06-2024 11:37 AM

Pressure test was good 90 psi for 30 min so that is not the source of the leak

gsmith660 05-23-2024 07:35 AM

Not much to report the motor is still at the machine shop. I have been running new 1/2 inch hard fuel lines through the tunnel and cleaning up the engine bay. Gonna work on these small projects until I get the motor back.

Little things like a clean engine bay make a huge difference enjoying the whole process

Things to keep me busy while I wait. New bushings in the pedal assembly it is tight now, clean the carpets, reinstall the oil cooler and lines after cleaning and flushing, continue cleaning and refurbishing the engine bay. Things completed changed the oil in the tranny renewed throttle bushing on same cleaned and renewed the tranny mounts and general cleaning and preservation of the whole car.

This is entertaining. You certainly have had this car for a while. Best of luck on the rebuild / turbo project. Patrick
