Still looking for the issue. I did not test another coil after Bob Ashlock told me that he hot tested it and it checked out good.

I have attached a picture of a switch that is hooked into the vacuum line to the distributor. It appears that there is a line out of the device that is either unplugged or a vent. Do you guys know if this is simply a vent and should open as it is?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1723851857.jpg

Okay, might have finally found something that is suspect. I know that the resistance for this rotor is supposed to be 5k ohms, but I get no commination between the center point and end of the rotor. Unless there is some special way of testing this connection, please let me know.

I just measure the ohms resistance between the 2 points. If you don’t have any contunity that may be your issue. I just put a new rotor on and verified the 5k ohms resistance before installation

Let’s hope that’s it! There are a few different specs for rotors over the model years, but none had no continuity at all.
Nice signature line, BTW. You can keep the Corvettes (haha) but the Pantera and dark blue ‘67 GT350 hit me directly in the feels! Pics are always welcome around here.

Ken, there is not many car prettier than a 1963 Split Window coupe, IMO. I have never been a ford guy but as I get older and am less concerned about performance, ha ha, some of the ford models are starting to appeal to me. I have attached some pics of my shop and warehouse with toys.

Nice car collection.

Yes it is a vent, if my memory is correct that is what increases ignition advance to increase idle for the first 30sec when engine is cold, when vented distributor pot only gets vac to one side, the thermal time switch turns the solenoid valve on/off.

What year is your 930? If you are working on a 1987 I don't think that is the correct Rotor.

1987. I was simply replacing what was already on the car when I bought the car, but I am not 100% sure that is the correct rotor. Do you have the part # for the correct one? The car has a rev limiter, so I assumed that this rotor with the rev limiter was correct. So, the other rotor that looks more like a conventional rotor is the correct rotor for my 87 930 with electronic ignition?

Pretty sure the 1987 has electronic rev limiter under the drivers seat, speed relay #930 618 123 00. Mine just has a conventional rotor.

Just wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciated all of the ideas and .......YES, WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY FIXED MY 930.

It was the POS rotor cap. Went by a local Porsche guy today and he loaned me a standard rotor and she runs like a bat out of hell again, a couple of 120mph passes around the block, let it sit for 45 minutes and 2 more high speed passes and I believe that she is fixed......FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again guys for all of the input.

That’s great!

Great result. Not always obvious and your perserverence paid off. Big time. These cars are complicated , in their own simple way. Many moving parts to make a sucessful result. Kudos to you.
Fingers crossed for you it is the long term result.
Your car collection is Awesome. kudos again.
Alan

Thanks for closing the loop. Far too often when the issue is finally run to ground thread is left hanging.
