Lots to learn on my 911sc

2 years ago I bought my 79 from my good friend. We are still friends 😆 I've known this car since he bought it and helped with pulling the engine under his ownership. His goals were stripped out track car. Mine are not. What I have to start with is a 3.0 with an odd kkk turbo, headers and bitz efi. It leaks like a sieve, has an incomplete tune, and was missing a trans mount bolt, but did drive home with me. I have sat on it for a year trying to learn as much as I can from the forums and Wayne's book before diving in head first. I'm no stranger to mechanics, but new to porsche. Ive pulled the cams and should have it all apart soon. I seem to only be able to post in this specific forum, so forgive me as it probably belongs in the engine rebuild topic, but it does have a turbo. Here's the pics, first post for me. | ||

I'm lucky that here in Michigan I've got a lot of resources somewhat local to me too. My rough plan is still not decided... I'm just not sure I want to keep it turbo. It wasn't provided with any supporting internals. I'd like to have it all torn down before I make my mind up on that. It's at least going to need a few or all exhaust studs, likely valve guides, probably head studs and surely rod bolts, and a big rewire of the engine compartment just to get going safely. If I continue with the turbo, its going to need more and or never see significant boost without some more major changes. So, keeping the turbo will cost money and removing the turbo will cost money.

Got my right side cam towers and heads off. Intake studs came with the nuts on some, and there as an extra washer in there 😆 idk what the hard glue like stuff is that was sealing the cam towers to the heads. I think it's actually melted plastic bag from a mouse nest! That scoring doesn't make me happy, but I'm saving the frustration for after it gets cleaned up and inspected.
