I also meant to say I wasn't comfortable with everything above. The owner tried telling me it was ok to smoke. You should have heard it idling, it was very rough, even warmed up. Sounded like a v-8 with a big ol cam.
I was really looking forward to it from the pics too and was able to look past some bad things, but this was overwhelming. Bill |
I didn't read all of the posts, here. FWIW, I have an '87 930 that is my daily driver, which includes dropping my nine year old son off at school every morning. And when my four year old daughter starts kindergarten, she'll be making the commute in it, too!
It took a little bit to get the car sorted out, but she's been good to me. I'd drive this beast any where! I built a new engine for it, and it's scary fast. I've even removed the AC and run a "zork" tube straight exhaust pipe on it! Needless to say, the car is far from practical, but every day that I leave my office and see it waiting there for me, I know that at this point in my life, there is no other car for me. The 965 (964 Turbo) is indeed a better car - in the great scheme of things. The tranny is better, the suspension is better, better turbo, better I/C, fully finned cylinders, and I'm told the AC is better...although I have my doubts about the AC. However, I just love the looks of the 930. And to be honest, most 930s (by now) have had a lot of the engine "upgrades" performed (or at least comarable) to what a typical 965 has. Also, the prices were a lot higher for decent 965s when I was looking. It's really tough to say. I have no regrets with my 930... |

I was out of town yesterday so I am not sure if the owner accepted my offer. Hopefully I'll know tomorrow. The suspense is killing me.
If not, no biggy, the search will still continue. Bill |
Ok, the PPI is tomorrow morning at 8 am. We'll see if anything is uncovered.
On a side note, the wheels appear to be 18" HRE's. I looked at the website and damn are they expensive. I wonder what kind of go fast goodies I can get if I can sell them, hmm..... Bill |
I bought my 930 in the summer and put about 3000 miles on it, not quite daily driver but a true 2nd car. It saw less use than that in the past 3 years by the PO. Naturally it had some annoying little issues when it started to see constant use. I have it just about straightened out, and probably could make it a daily driver if I lived in a place with less snow.

OK PPI news:
Leakdown on one cylinder was 8%, the rest were 2-4%. It has been twin plugged. New coil overs on all corners, brakes in good condition. K-27 turbo, may be leaking oil on the outlet side. B&B exhaust. Some minor oil seepage from the cam boxes and one other place. Was told it isn't anythign to really worry about, but could be indicative of a poorly rebuilt motor. I get the feeling that the car has no been driven hard for a little bit. Overall in excellent condition. It is a 15 year old car afterall. On a stroke of luck, I got an e-mail from a previous owner of the car, and replied, and am just waiting for his response. Thougts? Bill |
Was leakdown done on a hot engine? As a BTW...anything under 8% very acceptable.
Compression...what are those numbers? Hast to be done on a hot engine with throttle all the way depressed. Bad turbo? Easy fix...and some good options too...just need a few $$ in hand...negotiate the cost of a new (upgraded) turbo into your offer. Shoot me a side pic of those wheels, I'll tell you if they are HREs or not. Yasin |
Yasin,
Everything was done a warm engine. Unfortunately I am in Texas right now, and as you know the car is in CO. After looking again, he didn't think the turbo is bad at all, thinks it oil from somewhere else. All it really needs is new lower spark plugs and some new wires. It runs a little rich right at first, but was it is warm, it runs better. It has a crankfire ignition as well (should have figured with the twin plugs). Clutch, transmission, everything else checked out just fine. I will post some more pictures when I get it home. Bill |
no, the car I am looking at is a 1992 turbo.

no problem at all sandman. hell I do that all the time. I am sitting in a plane right now heading home, so I am hoping to start the paperwork on the car this afternoon.

Bill - If the turbo is good, it has crankfire and twin plug, I say jump on it! Running rich on initial is fine, I am wondering where your oil leak is coming from?
Its on eBay now....what happens if a high bid scoops it up? One of my work colleagues has been eyeing it closely....better watch it! Hope you get it. Regards - Yasin |
I bought it. I go to finalize the deal this afternoon. the leaks aren't horrible and we are thinking its the valve covers leaking the most. the cam boxes and front pully seal are seeping a little. I don't think its bad enough to drop the engine though.
I am going to put some cooler plugs in the twin plug location and get some new plug wires, otherwise it runs great. It has Bilstien PS-9's as well, so that is a nice surprise. Once I get him home I'll take some pictures. Thanks for everyones advice. Needless to say I am pretty damn excited. Bill |
Congrats....looking forward to seeing the car - sweet! Its looks like a really great car.
Yasin |
I will try to get some pictures tomorrow if time permits. We are putting up the Christmas tree and my daughter is super excited to do that, so pictures will have to wait...

Girls just don't get it with cars :)
