Need helps on turbo!! K27 is lagging
For those 930 experts, I need helps on choosing a prober turbo for my 86 930. I felt my K27 lags alot. it spools around 4000rpm, full boost at 4900 - 5000 rpm. I'm thinking of getting a Garrett GT BB. Any expert advise will much appreciated from a 930 newbie.

It sounds like there is something up with your car. I'd check for any kind of boost leaks and to make sure your wastegate is hooked up and functioning properly. From what I've seen, you should be getting full boost well before 4000rpm. I've seen guys with K27 HF's and other modded K27's making full boost somewhere around the ~3k rpm range so you don't necessarily have to convert to a GT series if you're just looking for better response. If you could give us a bit more info on your setup (all stock, mods, etc?) we might be able to help out a bit more.

K27-7200? Should be full in by 3000rpm for most applications.
What cams? Intercooler? Headers?

Sounds like you might have an exhaust leak before the turbo charger.

For a true bolt-on upgrade, you can't go passed the ImagineAuto K27-7200/K72-HFS turbos.
However, if you are after a ball-bearing solution, I'd recommend a GT30R for up to 500HP, or a GT35R for ~600HP. Amazing spool-up ![]() Are you running aftermarket headers, or still the heat exchanger setup?

Thanks guys!!
I'm running andial IC, stock exhaust, stock internal, 1 bar spring. fuel enrichment kit. however my boost gauge is showing 0.9. It's a andial mechanical type gauge. not sure why. I was assuming the gauge is not 100% accurate. could this be a leak? in regards of the K27, i'm not sure whether it's a K27HF or not. All I know is a euro spec K27 from previous owner.

Something is wrong. If your gauge is correct you have a leak. Even with a stock exhaust you should see full boost by ~3000RPM. Post the numbers on the turbo and someone will identify it.

If you're saking about the GT-series turbos, there are many more suppliers. An internet search or pelican search on garrett or GT35r will lead you in the right direction. Cheers, Maxx

Here is an excellent source for Garrett GT series: ATP Turbo
Precision Turbo also has just about anything Garrett based. |

Give us the stamped info listed on the blue/silver tag as seen on this picture, note this is a stock 3LDZ turbo.

It's a 99% chance that your turbine has FOD.

Yeah, you either have a leak or your turbine/compressor is FOD:ed/worn down.
You should get full boost at <3500 RPM...

Before you get too crazy look at the hot housing. There is a cast number on the housing. The stock"street" size would be an 11 hot size. I'v seen them come with hot housings as big as 18. That would cause a very late spool up. The normal hot size for a track/street car would be a 13. Let me know what you find.

Outdated or not, he should have full boost at 3300 RPM, even with old 3DLZ. Something is wrong with his car.
