Hottest CAM you can run on a 965 Turbo...
Hi,
I'm looking to install the hottest cams you can possibly run on a heavily modified 965 Turbo racer with the following profile: 3.3L 965 based race car with a single custom turbo making 480 RWHP CIS in crude mode (no O2, no emission control valves, etc...) Fuel Enrichment by Leask's modified WUR Methanol-Water Injection System Intake Heads, Injector Blocks, and Manifold ported to 41mm I.D. 964 CAMS High Performance Valve Springs B6 Intercooler John Dougherty of DRC suggested the following: "... I would stick with the 964 cams unless you can add some type of fuel enrichment. The 964 cams are the max with cis. I have also seen dyno sheets over 500 whp with the 964's. If you stepped up to the GT2 cams, you would have enough camshaft to make it to 700 whp. But tuning will be hard to do..." What has been the experience with GT2 cams? Any other sugestions? Would the 935 cams fit the 965? GB ![]() |

I think 964 cams are about max with CIS. I have them in my EFI car and I should be making about 500rwhp at 1 bar boost, once I get my clutch issue sorted out.

You need to listen to the cam makers - Elgin, John, Webb Cams. They are the experts and know what works for what engines. If you want custom, talk to an experienced engine builder who works with the above companies, and has lots of experience building these motors. The cam is truely the most important component to your engine. All the latest mods put together won't create crap if the cam is not matched to your design. That being said, I agree with David - I had a 964 in my CIS and produced more than 400 RWHP easily with it. That cam profile works.
