934 Project Commences

Turning a 1986 911 Turbo into a 934 Replica. Motor at Rudtner's Racing for complete build: 3.4, twin plug, Pauter rods, JE Pistons, Ported & O-ringed Carrera heads, individual throttle bodies, Haltech EMS, etc., re-geared 930 4-Speed.

Car is being stripped to bare tub, acid dipped, seam welded, caged, powder coated. AIR 934 front valence and fender extensions (11&14"). CCW wheels with black anodized centers (18x10 & 18x13)...I know this is not accurate, but you cannot find street tires to fit the proper 16" diameter wheels.

Suspension courtesy of Steve Weiner at Rennsport Systems: ERP 935 style complete front suspension, 935 style spring plates, Moton coilovers front and rear, Smartracing Products adjustable sway bars, Camber Boxes, Wevo motor and transmission mounts, etc.

Car will be driven on street and track.

Who wants to race?:D

What will the individual throttle bodies add to the car (performance, driveability, engine safety, reduced lag??) over the more typical single throttle body on a turbo car? I have heard of people doing that mod but don't know why. I imagine with an IC to deal with it is fairly difficult to implement.

Much more efficient...more power with less boost, better throttle response, more power potential, exotic...not many people are doing it. Unfortunately, it is a bit pricey...but worth it. Similar set up to Bill Rudtner's 935.

Is your Haltec going to measure MAP on each side, on each cyl, just once at the IC?

Where are you measuring TPS? On one or all six?

Why two fuel rails per side?

DRV2FST 03-28-2007 05:09 PM

Do you have pics of the IC yet?

Good questions, we need to ask Bill. Bill uses 2 rails because he has 2 injectors per throttle...2x55 or 60lb!

If you look below the fuel pressure regulator and see that little block with all the vacuum lines; thats where Manifold absolute pressure is measured. What they do is run a line from the bottom of each throttle stack and run it into a collector block so the car can make some kind of vacuum for brakes and other things when off throttle. I am not sure as I'm not an ITB expert, but I think there is only one tps.

Its not fair! I want twin injectors! That must make it a lot easier to tune part throttle.

Cgmeredithjr, those are both very beautiful cars (or one in the same?) Were you by any chance at the sebring pca event 2005 (the one after daytona 24 hour)?

DRV2FST 03-31-2007 07:35 AM

I see it now, thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks! The top photo is the project car (1986 911 Turbo), the engine and intercooler photos are of Bil Rudtner's 935 replica (1979 930). The 1986 will become a 934 replica with similar running gear to the 935 replica. Not at Sebring, Bill may have been there though.

More pics on progress and a big THANK YOU to Rattlsnak for all the help with the stripping and ideas for the project. Here are some shots showing the test fitting of the CCW 18x10s and 18x13s. Clearly, I need more tire, I threw on a set of Pirelli Radial Slicks I had previously used on my GT2 and they are NOT nearly wide enough! Pics show 245's on the front and 325's on the rear and these will grow to 285's and 345's. I will be probably using a 1" spacer on the front and 3"spacer on the rear to fill up these flares...to think that I almost bought the 15" wide 934.5 rear flares...ay caramba. Some shots show the additional 5" gained by installing the rear flares...the factory steel flare still needs to be trimmed back.

Are you sure that those are not the 15 inch rear flares? The 934 flares I have look closer to 3 inches wide in the back.

Yes, AIR sells 3 versions of the 934 Flare: 13", 14", and 15" 934.5 Flare which looks like this:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1176155477.jpg

Ah so. That is one big flare above. I will be watching your project with great interest as I will eventually be putting my baby under the knife as well.

Gnarly!!!!

I would not however, put 3" spacers on a race car. Too much outboard weight on the hubs....find the proper wheel fitment....

I agree, hopefully with wider tires (345/30-18 MPSC or Goodyear Slicks 25.5x12.5x18) I will only need a 2" spacer at the most. The problem with wheel selection, is that I think I am using the widest CCW outer half I can get (with 13" total width) and still be able to run some type of street tire.

Cleve, a project such as yours will demand perfect balance, IMO..contact HRE and tell then what you're doing....they may be able to fab up your perfect wheel...
