Confused about 'improved' operating shafts
 

I am so confused. I am trying to put together a G50/50 setup. I am working on getting the operating shaft/clutch release put together. There are apparently two different operating shaft ‘improvement’ kits.

I have bits of both kits I think.

I have an operating shaft, needle bearings, plastic cap, etc I purchased from Pelican, it’s the OEM ‘improved operating shaft’ setup. I did not purchase a release fork, I already have that.

Then I have another operating shaft. It looks different. Machined steel. It’s the same as the one in the ‘other’ improved upgrade kit. This is the kit that says no drilling required.

If that kit updated operating kit says no drilling required, and the other does not. Then other must require drilling. Drilling what?
