Catalytic Converter Question
What if "someone" had an '88 930 and the catalytic converter was sorta ruined and it got hollowed out and put back together? Would that be a bad thing?

I'll trade you your cat for a bipass pipe. Indy didn't do smog checks when I lived there. If that's still the case you should be OK with a bipass pipe.

Well the mechanic sorta did the cat mod before we talked about it. He new I wasn't gonna spring 2k for a new one from the fatherland. Just picked up the car... first time I've driven a 930.... oh my!! Mechanic said that the insides of the converter were melted into a lump and the car was only pushing .6 bar of boost. It's better now!!! I do sorta like the sound of that turbo crackling on the way down... may have to spring for a new pipe anyway!! Gonna be a FUN weekend!!!

I will certainly consider it! I had the car worked on at Euromotorworks here in INDY. The dealership has really made great strides in the service department here but they got really nervous about working on the 88 TURBO so I looked elsewhere. Terry Heath ownes the shop and I was told ran the service shop at the dealership before it was sold to the current owner... So where exactly is the converter in relation to the turbo?

The cat bipass tube is the black tube attached to the turbo in this picture. The muffler runs under the tube. This is what your muffler should look like.
Is this the setup you have? ![]()
