Correct engine?

Here's one for you numbers guys....

On the 79 RoW 930 I recently bought the VIN number ends in 0476.

The engine number ends in 0482.

Are these numbers supposed to match or does this indicate that the engine has been swapped at some point?

Thanks,
Doug

The chassis and engine numbers don't match.

The VIN number is different to the engine number in all cars. It is just co-incidence they are close.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I'm used to "numbers matching" muscle cars and I couldn't find anything in my Porsche literature that clarified it for me.

Thanks again and have a great day.

For a RoW 930 produced between 8/78 and 7/79, your chassis should be:
9309700001 to 9309700820.

Engine type 930/60 numbered from 6790001.

Observation: the factory could have put RoW 930 #0001 with engine 0001 and so on, but there must have been assembly factors that kept the matching from occurring throughout the model year.

rotorhead, here is a picture of my fixer-upper. It's currently on jack stands having new busings, wheel bearings, pads and such taken care of. It's given me an opportunity to look at the underneath really well to conform what I have.

William930t, you're right on the numbers - 9309700476 and 6790482
