Cat and 1st 1/2 Muffler Glowing Red
The stock 88 930 was running fine all day yesterday - put 100+ miles on it. Took it on a three mile drive tonight. When I pulled over I noticed it was idling real high - about 2100 rpm. I then got out of the car and noticed the engine was clicking, tinking and clacking - like it had just been driven real hard for awhile and was hot. I took a look at the back of the car and noticed the right side of the muffler was glowing red but not bright red. I could also see that the cat was red as well.
The temperature gauge was reading normal. Anyone have any ideas of what might be going on? Thanks- Craig Backer Last edited by fastbacker; 12-13-2007 at 08:23 PM.. |

Same thing happened when we put a SC on my friend's Vette. Apparently the AF ratio was off and it was running lean.

Craig,
Normally when you see this the fuel mixture is off. In most cases it is rich. It's not a good idea to drive the car in this condition. If the cat gets too hot, you can ruin it.You need to get it checked at a shop. JR |

AFR's are out of whack or dizzy jumped a tooth and ignition is way retarded.
