915 in a 930
I know it's been done. But, I'm wondering how difficult it is to put a 915 transmission into a 930. Is it a simple remove the 930 trans and replace with a 915 affair? Or, is there modification that needs to be done?
Does it matter if the car is a '75 - '77 or a '78 and on? Or, is it all the same? Thanks, Skip

Expect flames for even considering the idea. A $10,000 G50 conversion is the tranny of choice.
To answer the question, I would think it's pretty much a bolt-in. The 76/7 short bellhousing 930 4spd is the same length as a 915. The 78-on is longer so you could likely move the engine forward a bit. The axles would be different unless you use M491 flanges. I would recommend that you beef up the 915 before going to the trouble. Keep the engine power below 350 ft/lbs of torque and no drag racing.

Front tranny mount needs to be reworked. If installed in 78- chassis rear engine mounts need to be moved forward or tranny mount moved backward. CV diameter won't match. Extensive flexing of differential-housing side plate occurs if drag-raced. Usually buggers up the pinion bearing beacuse of that. Extensive mods (reinforced bearing carrier-plate, billet side-plate, oiling) can strenghten it somewhat but your guess is good as mine.
G50 from bog standard Carrera might be a better choice. Needs torsion-tube reworking though.

Hi Guys
Well this is ok to put a 915 tranny to 930 Just change flywheel to 225mm flywheel or make some modification on bellhousing to fit the 240mm flywheel This is what happend. I have a Dp935 Twin turbo 2,8L, Ok I have done some track meeting. with no handling and bad brakes, the top speed on the straight away was there, one guy with a GT3 thougth he had engine problem when I passed him, ok my son told me to try drag racing. I did, but i was a short race. the 3 gear in the 930 tranny broke, did a 14,2 run on 2 gears. With short of money to fix my 930. I put a 915 4 speed tranny with a special clutch (2 disc audi). Next race, I have in mind that the gearbox will brake after letting the clutch go off at 6000 rpm, but hell no, I did a 12.08 run with no LSD! and the 915/4 is still in one piece? For next season I will make a 6 speed Audi transmission. ![]() |

I know a lot of guys that would love to own a DP 935 and I am pretty sure that no matter where they are from in this small thing we all call the world,,, they would not want to beat the holy hell out of it drag racing.
![]() Stop listening to your son. Put that sweet car,,, once fixed,, on the track and do it pure justice! ![]() |

Six Speed quattro transmission from and Audi S4 are not going to be a good choice for your car. They're rated for AWD torque, and if converted over to FWD they'll grenade quick.. alot of the Ultima guys have tried this and get nowhere quick. You may look for an 01X FWD transaxle which already has the center diff removed. 01A and 01E designations are the quattro 5 and 6 speeds respectfully.
biggest issue with the audi transmission is the long one piece input shaft with integral 1st/3rd gears. They just can't take the torque load not being distributed across the entire case as in AWD. you can get one off input shaft made with separate gearsets for 1st/3rd but they cost a boot load and would put you into used G50 territory easy by the time you get done with the parts and overhaul......... If you're not going to put a G50 in that beutiful car, you'd be better off doing this with a JDM 6MT from a subaru STi than with the Audi counterparts......with durability and strength in mind. but then again that's a $3-5K transmission in itself when found and is just as expensive as a used G50

Thanks´Hayabusa and BoxxerSix.
-Well I have done s lot of track event with my DP 935. Ok this is an old car with no perfect handling, also in Sweden this type of cars like DP/Kremer is just a plastic **** car, but I like to run this old car on the race track. This is one of the reason for drag racing. In a track meeting I did 12 laps with one guy behing me, (964 Rsr) after the flag, I went to the pit, This guy with the 964 came up and was very angry. He could not pass me?, and I told him that I was sorry. For the next "heat" I told him to start before me. Well I passed him after 2 laps! -This was the comment I read in a Porsche forum. On the long straight away I was passed by a plastic kitted convertible. I did a pit stop just to find out what was wrong with my engine, Cold not find any problem with my engine, but my car was standing still! Ok this old DP is fast. ![]()

No problem. Plastic kit car or not, it's still a nice car and deserves the correct parts. I LOVE slant nose cars(965 Turbo S my favorite). To get an Audi(or subaru) transmission adapted and fit into the chassis where it hold the power for an appreciable amount of time is going to cost 4-5 thousand minimum(USD anyway) and it just puts you in such close range of buying a used G50 and bolting it in(with some minor mods)

Why not try a short gear 930 4spd?
I would not even consider a 915 for long term use in a track 930. Mine is tied down to <350 Ft/lb of torque and driven with care on the street. I know what you cannot do which means I also know how to destroy the 915 at will. Drag racing will destroy it. Not a matter of if but when. Track use doesn't shock it but will rappidly wear everything with heat and stress. As for your track story, there are arrogant asses everywhere, it's not just a US thing. ![]()

Eddie Bello is currently at 9.50 in the quarter on street tires and a G-50 non-turbo trans with no LSD. So I think the normal G-50s can handle a beating after the dyno pass I watched Eddie make
