Yes, this the correct place. Ask away. BTW, nice car. My wife saw me looking at it and asked why my car was on there.

Welcome, Johann! Yes, this is the forum for you. Ask away!
My daughter absolutely loves Barcelona. Maybe some day I will be able to visit there, too. Again, welcome. Geoff |

Thanks to you all!! Yes no problem in racing in the f1 track!! lovely and fun!!
My question is: is there any way to know the history of an American car? I mean, are there any registers of km driven, annual inspections, accidents and owners of cars registered in the states? In Europe we have the annual Technical Inspection were there is a register of the basic details of the car: km, inspections, number of owners, etc... The fact is that the car I show you has been in the states for about 2 years and I'd like to know whether during the import/export paperwork, there is any register available. I've can only give you the chassis number (VIN). The car was exported to the US and because they couldn't register it it was returned to Europe. The tach reads 60.000km and would like to know how many km was driven in the states. Where can I go? best regards to you all thanks Johann |

If it never got registered though, then there might not be to much info on carfax.
You may just have to trace back the family tree of the car.

Thanks to you all!!
sorry for my delay but I've been rallying a bit and left the forum aside. regarding carfax, no signs of the Vin of the car we are talking about. Color: Indian Red, the camera distorts a bit the colors. I'll try to enclose some photos: please give me your opinion on them: salute to you all Johann Note: yes nice "tapas" in the Ramblas and good "cerveza" and "siesta"!! |

I'm not entirely sure how Carfax works (gets its information). I think it taps into the computer systems/registries of each states' Department of Motor Vehicles, as well as whatever computer database used by the insurance companies. So, it's only as accurate as those sources.
If the VIN you provided did not register any hits via Carfax, then, presumably, the car was never registered in the U.S. Doesn't mean it wasn't driven/wrecked/serviced/etc, of course. Additionally, Carfax only goes back as far as those sources do. Many states' DMVs throw out data after a certain amount of time. My car was originally sold in California. But then, it lived in Nevada for several years. In the meantime, because there was no "activity" on the car on the California DMV database, the California DMV eventually purged all records of my car. (Well, at least until I brought the car back into California last year.) Running a Carfax on my car won't reveal the first few years of its life in this state. Records only start showing up (from other states) on the Carfax report for the past 10 years or so.
