another value question

Is $35K too high for a 57K mile 88 930. Seems to be in excellent condition. No issues except for a mention of blue smoke on start-up (personally I am kinda scared of a turbo seal going, or possibly valves, which is much worse to me). A PPI will be done if everything goes thru, but I am not entirely confident they can detect all issues.

Just some info to help. Car is completely original, has new tires, clutch recently replaced (10K miles ago), and new brake pads. Interior is in very good shape.

Thanks

Doesn't sound out of the question, as long as the PPI is clear! I did a PPI through New Port Beach Porsche... Spendy (W/O compression and leak-down it was still $600), but VERY Thorough! After their PPI I would have felt confident in my purchase!

Sounds like a very fair price for an excellent 930. If condition is truly excellent inside and out along with a clean PPI I would say you are getting a very fair deal.

Blue smoke on start up is generally nothing to worry about if it is on a cold start and lasts for ~5 seconds or so. Anything more than that and I would start to look a little harder at the issue. Blue smoke on deceleration is gonna cost money.

When I hear of cars described like this going for let's say $25,000 I have to believe my definition of excellent and someone else's are far apart. There are fewer and fewer truly excellent 930s out there. If you see one, jump on it.

This is exactly how I feel, and what I have experienced. It can be very frustrating, especially when you tak the time to travel somewhere to see an "excellent" example.
I am almost 100% confident the seller is representing his car correctly with this one.

I traveled to see one "excellent" 930.

What I found once I got there was a good car, not excellent. Several body/paint flaws, a transmission that needed a rebuild and smoke on startup that lasted for longer than I felt comfortable with. It was a great price as well, $28,000 . I was calculating that it would cost me about $15,000 on top of the purchase price to get that car into proper condition (paint, transmission, top-end). Not bad for excellent!

I passed on it and the car went to Pomona. That's where the real bargains can be found.

Sounds about right if it's in excellent condition.
